In this project, I recover a forgotten archive of Latin American political imagination. I survey a series of impossible, defeated or incomplete modernization projects in the region. This corpus comprises projects of a monument for the Pan-American Union that never took shape, Argentinian artist Xul Solar’s imaginary architectures, Cuban anthropologist Fernando Ortiz’s unfinished book on architecture, or Catalan architect Josep Lluis Sert’s unexecuted urban plan for La Habana. I believe that returning to these projects foster the capacity to imagine and anticipate other futures for the region.
